What is Art?

This is a group activity wherein we discussed what is art and why we create it.

Art is the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination.

WHAT IS ART?

SELF- EXPRESSION
– provides a means to express the imagination in non-grammatic ways that are not tied to the formality of spoken or written language.

– product of a body of knowledge, most often using a set of skills.

 

REFLECTION OF A MILEU

– reflects and belongs to the period and culture fr om which it is spawned.

 

INSTRUMENT

– tool for sending messages and the like across various platforms that an artist wants to convey.

 

WHY MAKE ART?

To spread messages & communicate
Artists have an  intent or goal directed toward another individual, and this is a motivated purpose.

Art for propaganda, or commercialism and it can be used to subtly influence popular conceptions or mood.

To invoke thought & instigate debate

Makes people critically think and promptly analyze

Meanings behind pieces of art are open for debate and is talked about

 

To tell a story from literature, myths, religion, and poetry

Art enables certain areas to thrive by depicting their cultures and practices

 

To reflect the beauty of nature, a landscape, or city.

Art, a human activity, reflects natural occurences and the environment.

Photography

 

For political change and social movements.

Raise awareness for various pressing issues in society

Take a political stand

Influence audience

 

EVOLUTION.

The only constant thing we can all agree upon is that art is always changing. Since we are sentient beings, we need to strive to either find truth or create meaning. Art helps us do that.
